The painting depicts on the left a vast landscape view with classical ruins and sculptures; in the center a raging torrent and in the background a partly fortified village. A moving sky full of clouds completes the scene. The painting is a valuable work by an illustrious eighteenth-century Italian painter: Giovanni Antonio Pianca.
Pianca, born in 1703, originally from Val Sesia, was active in Milan and Novara, but also lived in Genoa where his work was strongly influenced by Magnasco... (See Giamblanco catalog)
