Orazio Riminaldi (Pisa, 1593 – 1630) David Displays the Severed Head of Goliath, circa 1615 oil on canvas, 114 x 93 cm. SOLD Painting with certificate of free circulation. [...] The archetype of this absorbed David after severing the head of the giant Goliath is certainly to be recognized in one of Caravaggio's last works, the David with the Head of Goliath in the Borghese Gallery. Also in that case, David is half-length, illuminated by a directed light and defined by decisive light/shadow contrasts; but the matrix of this painting should also be sought in the multiple declinations that occurred of this subject in the Caravaggesque environment, as in the case of Manfredi, Simon Vouet and Nicolas Tournier. It would almost seem that this David, ruthless on the battlefield, is here to represent, in the early seventeenth century, the 'quietism' of Torquato Accetto in the political field...
