Paolo Gerolamo Piola SOLD (Genoa, 1666-1724) Mary Magdalene Acquiring Perfumed Oils Oil on canvas, 135 x 203 cm. Painted works subject to notification restriction by the Superintendency. "The splendid painting is entirely and exclusively the work of Paolo Gerolamo Piola's solo brush: the emergence of a unique autograph is not a foregone conclusion in a workshop, Casa Piola, where pictorial polyphony is practiced and customary among members of the same family. Son, nephew, brother, brother-in-law and uncle of artists, from an early age Paolo Gerolamo shows his talent and dedicates himself to painting in a unique way: for this he is clearly preferred by his father Domenico (1627-1703) and intended to succeed in the management of the largest forge of Ligurian arts between the 17th and 18th centuries. The undisputed, exclusive refinement of his role strongly imprints the Ligurian scene: his pictorial doing informs the taste of contemporary artists and clients who appreciate the grafting on the Piola substrate of Roman accents mediated by his activity at Carlo's workshop." - Galleria Giamblanco Catalog, Italian Painting from the Seventeenth to the Twentieth Century, Allemandi, Turin, 2013, pp.34-35. http://dipintiantichigiamblanco.it/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/catalogo-vendita.pdf [ALESSANDRA CABELLA] For more information send us an email: galleria@giamblanco.com SOLD
