Vittorio Amedeo Cignaroli (Turin 1730 - 1800) Rural scene with figures and animals Rural scene with fisherman Oil on canvas, 46.5 x 34 cm each SOLD "This delightful pendant of views is a work from the early artistic maturity of Vittorio Amedeo Cignaroli, the famous painter of «landscapes and woodland scenes» of the King of Sardinia, Vittorio Amedeo III of Savoy. The two canvases introduce the viewer to situations of absolute rural serenity, in which some characters spend their lives in a nature of Arcadia, completely free of pitfalls or threats. The first painting shows a graceful laundress intent on rinsing her clothes in the river, while a shepherdess surrounded by herds watches her curiously. The second painting instead portrays a young family resting on the banks of a stream; under a large plant, the mother and her little son joke happily, waiting for the father to successfully complete his fishing trip. The skies above the compositions are pervaded by the warm and rosy hues of a summer twilight, while a warm breeze gently moves the fronds of the trees". - Galleria Giamblanco catalog, Four centuries of painting, Allemandi, Turin, 2016, pp. 60 - 63. http://dipintiantichigiamblanco.it/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Catalogo-2016.pdf Measurements: 46.5 x 34.5 cm each.
