With expertise by Prof. Camillo Manzitti The unpublished work has been attributed by Camillo Manzitti to Giovanni Battista Carlone, the most famous exponent of a family of artists originally from the Mendrisio area who settled in Genoa around the mid-sixteenth century. […] The canvas presented here, depicting the biblical episode of "Joseph and Potiphar's Wife" (Genesis 39, 6-20), should be chronologically placed in the thirties of the seventeenth century, in the phase of the master's early maturity: it seems to reinterpret, renewing it, a room painting by Vermiglio representing the same subject, now kept in a private collection and probably made for a Milanese client...
