Giovanni Michele Graneri, one of the most significant representatives of that lively and important genre and bambocciata painting current, which flourished in Turin, with great success, throughout the eighteenth century, has been the subject of historical and artistic analysis for some years. The painter was born in the subalpine capital on September 28, 1708 to a modest family of artisans and died in Turin on February 26, 1762. To date, no documents are known regarding his artistic training, which certainly took place, as recalled by late eighteenth-century sources and as evidenced by his own paintings, in the wake of the great Turin painter Pietro Domenico Ollivero (1679-1755).
